SH ie ONDER OOH = amended, Sinith said. ‘'The bylaw Acting director of development could be amended to redefine ser- and licensing Fred Smith said in a report the April 21 bylaw, which has not yet been adopted, would make the Pay-N-Save site a con- forming use «nd would allow the Station to reopen and sell pro- pane. Under city rules, the site is con- sidered a non-conforming use and the station cannot be rebuilt if it is more than 75 per cent destroyed. Council decided Oct. 6 to take no action until the provincial Gas Safety Division had completed its investigation — one which staff says might not assist in council’s policy decision on propane sales. Smith said the investigation is nat yet finished. ‘‘The spokesman ‘BARRINGTON News Reporter for the Gas Safety! Division did state this type of investigation could take a long time,”’ he said. “There is little point in awaiting the outcome of that report which will address safety concerns in a narrow sense when council may wish to address the larger issue of propane storage and sales within the municipality.” At an earlier council meeting, angry residents demanded propane tanks be located at least 500 metres from any houses or apartment buildings. Restricting propane to industrial areas of the city was also vice station use, excluding propane and liquid natural gas sales."” Although station owner Robert Vandekerkhove said Oct. 14 he would apply for a zoning change, no application has yet been filed. “Tt seems that the business has not resumed operation, and rumors abound with respect to the future of this site, but no factual infor- mation is yet available,’’ said Smith. In an interview, Vandekerkhove confirmed the station is still clos- ed. Problems with theft and lack of proper washroom facilities have made it impossible to resume sell- ing gasoline at the station, he said. Smith recommended council re-address the by!aw and council deferred the matter until Nov. 24 to give Vandekerkhove and area residents a chance to study the report. UNITED WAY Loucks, Raymond honored by charity NORTH VANCOUVER City Mayor Jack Loucks and city ad- ministrator Ed Raymond each received awards Monday for their long-time contributions to the United Way. “This is a surprise,’ Loucks said as municipal sector chairman Mel Shelley presented him with the award, “I contribute every year like everyone else.”’ Raymond, described by Shelley as having ‘‘dedicated himself to those less fortunate,"’ was also caught unaware by the United Way award of merit. “Y’m even more surprised than Mayor Loucks,’’ said Raymond. 3 Section Wall Unit As shown... 6 ft. long, 6 ft. high and 12” deep.
