Teams ski for handicapped

A 24-HOUR ski marathon
and an attempt at a new
world record for continuuus
skiing on Grouse Mountain
will raise money for disabled
children and disabled skiers
next month.

Coca-Cola “and “Grouse
Mountain have teamed up
with the B.C. .Lions: Society

for Crippled Children. and . &
the Disabled Skiers Associa-
tion of B.C..to*stage the ff

double header event Feb. 20

_ through 23.

The main event is the 24-
hour ski marathon which
will have 12-member _ ski
teams skiing selay style.

Bach member will ski a total .

of two hours.

The teams will have ob-
tained pledges from sponsors
for each lap. completed on
The Cut.

. The marathon will begin
at noon Fes, 22 and end at
noon the next day.

. All pledge monies raised
in the event will be shared by

the B.C. Lions Society and ~

the Disabled Skiers Associa-
tion.
The second event will see

pairs of skiers attempting to .

break the world record for

- continuous skiing. :
The. current record is 82

hours and 9 minutes. -

Melissa Boyd added singles. .

stick goal.

NSWC met North West-

Tween Bs meanwhile went
down. to two ‘defeats,
although both games ‘were
closely fought. _

They were beaten 6- 4 by
Langley in.their first match
with NSWC: goals coming
from Jennifer Tyldesley with
two and Stacy Grant and

- Shona Mauch with one each.

Aldergrove came out 4-2
winners in the second game.

Mauch again scored twice
for the Tweens.

Michelle Murphy played a
solid game in goal for the
NCOWC team.

Aldergrove went on to
defeat Langley in the final
5-4.
