tain equitable tax levies, or
grants-in-lieu,’’ from the
B.C. Ferry Corporation.

The Corporation is the on-
ly Crown corporation cur-
rently not required to pay
their host-municipality any
grants-in-lieu of taxes.

Nanaimo wants this chang-
ed because municipalities

with ferry terminals in them
have the added expense of
highway maintenance, traffic
control, streetlighting, and
extra policing to worry about
directly related to the heavy
volume.
