Around 500 West Van-
couver high school students
heard and saw evidence of

Debating Seminar is made
up of 66 finalists from across
Canada (seven of whom
were from B.C.) who
debated their way through to
their provincial finals and so
qualified for the Nationals
held this year in May in
Kelowna. Kamloops,
Vancouver and Victona. It's
been a busy ume for
Scheffer who as the Lower
Mainland co-ordinator was
involved in staging these
debates in the Vancouver
area. as well as billetting the
out-of town contestants. The
12 students who debated
here were billetted in seven
West Vancouver homes

formal debating association
for students had been in-

Doctors do it
BOSTON (UPI) - Doctors
fare better than the general
public at staying away from
booze, pills, cigareties and
fatty foods, according to a
survey.
The health habit survey,
which was mailed to 1,013
Harvard chinical faculty
members with a 60 per cent
response, found only 8 per
cent of respondents smoked
cigarettes and nearly 40 per
cent had kicked the habit.
About 33 per cent of the
general public smokes.
Only two per cent of the
doctors regularly took
sleeping pills and 78 per cent
said they take time each day
for breakfast. Ninety-three
per cent shied away from
imbibing more than two
drinks.
The survey showed 49 per
cent of the mostly middle-
aged doctors said they
jogged or exercised for 20
minutes at least three times a
week and nearly half said
they restricted their red
meal consumption and tned
to maintain a fiber content in
their diet.
