According to North Vancouver traffic technician Len Mierau, the truck route study was initiated following complaints from resi- dents angered by trucks cutting through neighborhood streets not meant to accommodate such traf- fic. Said Richard Drdul, senior transportation planning consultant with. Urban Systems Ltd., ‘There were a number of areas of con- cern. Ones that come to mind — Wth Street, 19th Street — trucks coming down from Lynn Valley would come along Grand Boule- vard and then cut across '7th or whatever to get to Lonsdale. “Those streets are collector roads and were not designed or planned for truck traffic.” An objective of the study is to ED NER US eS divert truck traffic around resi- dential areas. But said Drdul, ‘‘We’re trying to make sure that whatever we propose doesn’t penalize truck drivers. We don’t want to be too restrictive and force some guy to drive so far around to make a delivery that it -becomes uneconomical.”’ Westview Drive is one of the Streets proposed to become a 24- hour truck route. I don’t feel that Larson and Westview and 16th Street are designed for truck traffic. It’s a very curvy route and a very steep hill. The noise is a factor.’’ Mike Goodsell lives at 2Ist Street and Westview Drive. His wife Bobbie is a school crossing guard for Westview elementary school.
