Christopher Dean comes to the
Pacific National Exhibition for the
Ice Capades from Jan. 5 to 10.

Olympic gold medalists and
four-time world ice dance champi-
ons, the pair’s performances to
Ravel’s Bolero, clowning acro-
batics. and lyrical numbers have
earned the'record holders the title
as the Royal Couple of Ice Danc-
ing.

The two are joined by children's
character Teddy Ruxpin who takes
the audience on a trip to his world
of wonder, and skaters Kitty and
Peter Carruthers.

Soccer teams
to battle it out

TWENTY-TWO NORTH Shore
soccer teams will take to local gym
floors Jan. 9 and 10 to vie for top
honors in the first Crest Realty In-
door Soccer Tournament. .

’ All of the tournament players
are nine years old, and the event is
being hosted for them as ‘‘they are
sort of left out’’ of other competi-
tion, said Crest Realty organizer
Karen. Halls. ‘‘It’s the first-time -
there has been an indoor tourna-
ment (for the local teams). °:-”

Tournament venues -are
Delbrook, William Griffin’ and
Mickey McDougall: gyms.’ Play
begins at 8 a.m.

Bewley will be bringing some real justice to North

Shore News pages as he reveals the inside workings

——_—J of Canadian judicial and political issues in his

column ‘Life Sentences.’ As often as not he'll be raising hell
about the events that affect our every day lives.

A former Vancouver Sun columnist, Mr. Bewley was
born in Vancouver in 1917. Bored with school, he dropped
out at age 16 and worked odd jobs while later attending night
school. Eventually he entered UBC where he discovered the
university student newspaper the Ubyssey’. At that time Pierre .
Berton was editor-in-chief, while Eric Nicol and Joe Schlesinger
worked alongside Mr. Bewley.

Having spent the majority of his time on the newspaper,
Les flunked out of university and joined the Navy where he
served on minesweepers during the Second World War and
was discharged in 1946 as lieutenant, RCNVR.

He returned to UBC and graduated from law school in
1949. Following seven years of private practice, Mr. Bewley :
was appointed Assistant City Prosecutor and then Magistrate
and Judge where he served for 21 years..

His experience on the bench has given Les Bewley the

keen and biting insights into Canada’s judicial and political -’ ;

systems and issues. Watch for his column ‘Life e Sentences’ go
every Sunday.
