BC Ferries spokesman Eric Kristianson said the foam was not the result of any substance released by the vessel. “We were running the jets for an hour-and-a-half and we were running all four jets,” said Kristianson. Once the fast ferry is in operation, it will only run two of its jets for a much shorter period in the harbour, he said. Nevertheless West Vancouver council has asked BC Ferries to postpone the jet propulsion vessel’s service launch on the Horseshoe Bay-to-Nanaimo route pending an environmental assessment. Three of the fast ferries are planned for the route. The next two are currently under construction. At the October meet: ing, Grouse Woods Residents Association president Mike Murphy shot down GVRD attempts to outline and justify construction plans. He told GVRD representatives chat they clearly had no understand: ing of the quality of lite enjoved by North Shore residents. At Thursday's ineeting, it was Murphy who opened pro- ceedings, delivering a speech to the GVRD panel and a crowd of over 100) people which detailed) resident’ continuing worries, Once again, he began by suggesting thar the GVRD had “their own agenda,” accusing officials of a vague response to questions and a failure te pro- vide adequate information to the public. The answers residents had received fram the GVRD, Murphy said, were mostly “bureaucratic whitewashing.” The big problem, according to North Vancouver District Coun, Glenys Deering-Robb, is the GVRD's apparent refusal to divulge information. She said the council has placed many requests with the GVRD for consultation reports; analy- sis of the various options explored for the upgrade; min- utes of the review board; and estimates of cost-effectiveness ands environmental impact. Initially, said Deering-Robb, the GVRD refused to release existing data, telling councillors that they “wouldn't under- stand” the compiled infornia- tion. The GVRD is now promis- ing to furnish district director! of engineering Bob West-Sells with data, although as yer this, has nor been forthcoming. BCHAIL NOTICE | B.C. Just because it’s the Most expensive, it doesn’t mean its the best method.” She added that by withholding information from the public and council, the GVRD was bound to “raise the red flag.” Paddon emphasized Thursday the GVRD's com- mitment to a collaborative process with area residents.
