Liading the charge is Keritie McDowall who main- tains the construction of the bike path will endanger many local wildlife species, particu- larly bald eagles. She spent two ’ hours gathering names for a petition she plans to present to North Vancouver City council on Sept. 8. She coliected 22 signatures through her efforts. If we would have stayed with the most ideal route, we would have had to cut down a lor of trees,” said Dal Santo. But, McDowall is more concerned about the trees’ inkabitants. “We want to have the area assessed by a wild bird expert to see if the bikeway is going to affect their (the cagles’) range and behavior,” said McDowall. “My biggest con- cern is that the cagles will just disappear altogether and won’t bother coming back at all.” She said that existing legis- lation prohibits construction within a 50 metre radius of September 6 &7, 1997 Pius these great events on now!
