Overview: Hermann Orth and Milo Bigler’s rock solid Swiss
lunch bar in Dundarave Village continues to build a long and
loyal clientele. Opened in late 1993, it was the first West
Vancouver restaurant to voluntarily bite the 100% non-smoking,
bullet back in 1994. Good move fads. In a small restaurant, the
smoking issue is an all or nothing proposition. You either have it
or you don’t. A non-smoking section is a joke. At Calvin's you
don't have it. Smoke that is. Makes for a crisp clean Swiss armos-
phere. A place of big sandwiches and hearty soups. Orth and
Bigler make a great tag team. Both are fun- -loving veterans of the
local dining scene; both can cook; both love life. A good combo
in the cating trade.

and beverage manager, who oversees Calvin’s dinner trade.

Lunch menu: Primarily soups, (Goulash, du Jour), salads
(Caesar, Teriyaki Chicken Caesar, Tomatoes, Onions and
Cucumbers) sandwiches (hot and cold selections ranging from
Salami.and Pastrami to Avocado and Shrimp and Corned Beef}
and burgers (Veggie available). But also fay specials and a few
fill-plate entrees such as Cannclloni, Swiss Toast and Vegetarian
Ratatouille.

Food quality: Nothing spectacular, j just good robust midday
rib-sticking, stuff. A sampled Harvest Veggie Burger ($5.95)
came with a large green salad on the side. The burger was
stuffed with slices of cucumber, tomatoes and Romaine lettuce.
Goad moist veggie patty. Load it up with salad and cream mus-
tard dressing. Dive in with both hands. Opening soup of the day
was Potato and Oregano ($2.95) came with a wartn, fresh slab
of rye bread. Soup was creamy and simple. Hit the midday spot
