seized on David Schreck’s
staternent that he is running
for council in North
Vancouver District because he
wants fo restore Harmony in
local affairs. I didn’t. But
Coun. Ernie Crist did.

Shakespeare, So we don’t
want councils, legislatures and
parliaments falling asleep that
way.

Yeu remember Schreck.
He was the NDP MLA for

North Van-Lonsdile who was
turfed our bv an unger
electorate. When will peeple
learn to respeer their betters
and those who strive for a
Better World?

On the subject of Schreck,
as on much else, E $ very
much awake.

“If David is so interested
in Harmony,” he asks, “why
did he go into politics in the
first place? It is like volunteer-
ing for a war party and not
liking blood. or watching
American TV and hating vio-
lence.

“And why did he not prac-
tise harmony in Victoria
where he served for five vears?
After all, comparing, loxal poli-
tics to provincial or federal
politics is like comparing a
convent to a boxing ring.”

Clark. In much the same way
as it was achieved in the dicta-

cillors should not attend
meetings of the task force
committee “without obtaining
the permission of the mayor
and his political entourage
first.”

But with the help of the
North Shore News and com-

munity organizations, states
Ernic, “petty tyranny had to |
retreat.

“Jr was a great victory for
democracy in the District of
North Vancouver. ... But no
help came from David
Schreck, to whom | had
appealed as well.

“He did not want to get
involved .... Striking a blow
for democracy would have
interfered with David’s efforts
to achieve Harmony.”

Ernie could have added
that the North Van School
Board and Lions Gate
Hospital were also left out of
Schreck’s Harmony Plan.

Oh well. As the sage said,
nothing is perfect in this
world.
