Although the meciing will be held at the Vancouver shelter, the ’ club is geared toward youths from all over the Lower Mainland and those from the North Shore are encouraged to attend. Lawson is a dynamic speaker who will offer some tips on help- ing your pet to be healthy, as well as speaking on his main topic — the opportunities open to young people considering a career in veterinary medicine either as a vet or as an animal health technician. Lawson is a knowledgeable vet who, for the past 10 years, has shared a veterinary practice with his wife, Dr. Brenda Thiesson. He has worked for Agriculture Canada and at the Exhibition Park racetrack. In addition to his own practice, he works part time at the SPCA hospital. The youth club is a new project designed for young people, from eight to 16 years of age, who meet monthly to enjoy a series of pro- grams that includes learning about various breeds of dogs and cats, proper grooming of pets, and handling animals in an emergency. The officiat goal of the club is “to encourage the understanding of, respect for, and protection of all animals within society and in 2 the wild.” The youth club was launched in September and is now in its third Howe Sound PET SERVICES LTD.
