MAILBOX Water quality is not the same as years past Dear Editor: In a recent letter to the North Shore News, Mr. Morse, Chief Engineer for the GVRD_ said, ‘Greater Vancouver’s drinking water quality is the same now as it has always been.”’ Perhaps Mr. Morse was not born in Vancouver or perhaps his taste buds and eyesight are begin- ning to fail him. I was born in Vancouver and would like to tell Mr. Morse that Vancouver’s drinking water is not of the same quality now as it was 25 years ago — if appearance and taste are two of the measures of quality. The water now is dreadfuily chlorinated and when we have a geod rainstorm the sediment in the water is disgusting. Because of this, more and more people are resorting to water filters and bot- Ued water. Stop defending our cloudy, chlorine fouled water, Mr. Morse, and get on with the job of return- ing to us the quality of water we once enjoyed! K.A. Stringer North Vancouver Drinking water is filthy Dear Editor: Regarding ‘“‘the disma} esthetic state of the local drinking water’’ as stated in a recent editorial in the News: Turbid? The water is filthy, and we don’t agree with your News viewpoint in any way. What you shouid be asking is who is responsible and why the Greater Vancouver Water Board has been logging water board Association Dear Editor: On behalf of the North Shore Association for the Mentally Handicapped, I extend a warm thank you to all zone captains and canvassers who worked so hard on our annual door to door campaign 1990 and to all North Shore resi- dents who donated so generously. To date we have raised over $53,000 for the programs and ser- vices for mentally handicapped property in Seymour since the 1960s. Where in h — — — did all that profit go? And why, after 40 years of combined effort are they starting studies now? Obviously the GVRD/GVWB hasn’t done us any good. We had better water years ago and it didn’t cost us as much. J.K. Campbell North Vancouver says thanks residents on the North Shore.
