17~ Wednesday, March 30, Feds give funds for job training project CAPILANO MP Mary Collins and Cariboo-Chilcotin MP Lorne Greenaway recently announced on behalf of Employment and Im- migation Minister Benoit Bouchard that $207,165 has been allocated for a Re-Entry job train- ing project in the Squamish- Whistler area. The project provides spaces for 25 women who will participate in 15 weeks of off-site instruction and 15 weeks of on-site training in order to prepare them for a career in the field of tourism manage- ment, Off-site instruction will take place primarily at the Squamish campus of Capilano ‘College (the program coordinator) and will in- clude an emphasis on marketing, financial management, human telations and special events. The on-site portion of the pro- gram will make use of the resort hotels and tourist facilities in and around Whistler, B.C. in order to give participants a chance to utilize their classwork and obtain relevant practical experience. Capilano College has an ex- cellent reputation in adult training programs and has been an active participant in Canada Job Strategy programs. The college currently enjoys an 80 per cent rate for past CJS projects. The federal government’s Re- Entry program, which is part of © the $4 billion Canadian Jobs Strategy, was established primarily to help the estimated 200,000 women who will be re-entering the labor force this year. Under Re-Entry, participants can be given a living allowance for up to a year while they receive a combination of skills training and on-the-job experience. The: training and work experi- ence for these programs are pzo- vided by focal institutions, businesses and organizations under agreement with Employment and Immigration Canada.
