Featuring scenes from the West Yancouver and Howe Sound areas, Gildersleeve’s works capture the feelings of the scenes he consigns to canvas. One of Giidersleeve’s recent ex- hibitions at the Old Custoins House Gallery at Britannia Beach had many of the works at home in the area where they were painted. But, as are the paintings, the newly restored gallery building — once an old customs house — is also a work of art. “It's a real gem,'' said Gildersleeve. “It’s a beautiful old house which we renovated,’’ proprietor Milada Dohnulek said of the building, which was built about 1909. In addition to sometimes featur- ing Gildersleeve’s works, the gallery aiso has a selecticn of works by Canadian Robert Genn, Karl Wood, Ute Hagen and others.
