FACILITIES Artists called for support OPEN LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE WEST VANCOUVER COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL ASSOCIATION GROUPS AND ARTISTS OF WEST VANCOUVER: At the present time the West Vancouver Parks and Recreation Department has made a proposal to municipal council for the tem- porary provision of space for use of the arts groups of West Van- couver. This proposal is in response to needs which have been documented by the arts council and which the present facility at Klee Wyck does not adequately provide. The proposed major arts facility associated with the existing recre- ation centre is several years from completion and cannot be seen to fulfil the. current pressing de- mands. . The proposal is associated with an expansion of John Lawson Park on the Ambleside waterfront and the current development at the foot of 14th and 15th Streets. Three houses which are owned by the municipality between 15th and 16th Streets are to be made available for conversion to space suitable for pedestrian drop-in ex- hibitions of an artistic nature and space to serve as a production fa- cility for the West Vancouver Lit- tle Theatre group. The grounds which the houses Presently occupy would be open to the public and the buildings would be maintained and administered by the municipality. The Board of Directors of the West Vancouver Community Arts Council strongly urge both indi- vidual members of the arts com- munity to support this proposal as well as the various member groups. This initiative is felt to be a ma- jor step in heightening the profile of the arts in the community as well as enriching the beachside at- mosphere of the Ambleside by the Sea plan. Resistance to this proposal has been voiced by existing tenants of the properties to be affected. Support of this proposal from the larger community is required or write your elected representative or municipal staff at the following address: West Vancouver Municipal Hall 750 - 17th St., West Vancouver,B.C. I was upset that such a small part of my letter to the West Van Council showed up in the Feb. 12 . edition of the Villager (Argyle Ave. residents unwilling to make room for cultaral facilities). I would have preferred to have had none of it printed rather than have the important items omitted. My objective was not to criticize amateur actors and actresses, but rather to emphasize the following points I hoped council would con- ! sider before replacing good tenants with transient groups. - Our neighborhood on Argyle Avenue is made up of family- oriented people in homes occupied day and night. We neither need nor want tran- sient people, whoever they may be, occupying these homes a few hours of some days. We try to help cach other main- tain a watch over our area in order to discourage break-ins, drifters’. parties and careless fires that could a 5 ; e e tevolun nary DesignaColor® System? . from im =Pittsburgh’ Paints rnakes you an instant color: expert. : With a little help from an advanced computer system ¥ oq? a and the color expertise only Pittsburgh Paints can- ie f provide, you ‘ll create a perfectly coordinated color . : ischeme in seconds.
