Sports — CRUISERS AND NSWC Local swimmers stroke to the provincial meet SUMMER SPEED swimming ends this month with the provincial meet scheduled for Aug. 21-24. In action leading up to the finals, the North Van- couver Cruisers swim club competed against the North Shore Winter Club, the Vancouver Vikings and Squamish in two recent meets. The ‘‘B’* meet, held at the Winter Club on Aug. 2, saw 27 Cruisers win ribbons and medals. The ‘‘A™’ meet, held at the Percy Norman Pool in Vancouver, saw 38 youngsters collecting awards. The B.C. Named to the 17-year-old Boys’ Girls tee off SHAUGHNESSY Golf and Coun- try Club will host the ninth ar-iual girl’s junior America’s Cup team matches, Aug. 20-22. The teams consist of four girls 17 years of age and under. There will be 16 teams com- peting, two from western Canada, 13 from the United States and one from Mexico. The first girl’s junior America’s Cup match was held at Tumwater Valley Golf Course, Olympia Wa., in 1978. This is the first time this com- petition will be held in Canada. The girls competing are between the ages of 14 and 17 and most carry a handicap of 10 and under. The girls will play three days of team stroke play for gold, silver and bronze medals.
