seen teers arte O08 Mailbox. Dear Editor: Your editorial ‘Garbage Logic’* require response to set the record straight. When the three-year agreement between Van- couver/Delta and the Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District (GVS&DD) for use of Burns Bog by any/all GVS&DD members terminates October 1986 — Burnaby, New Westminister, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody will need a disposal site for their garbage — hence the target date for the proposed new Eastern fand- fill ... a site which will also handie North Shore garbage. Until that time, we wish to use the option of Burns Bog under the GVS&DD agrec- ment, North Shore residents are contributing some $92,000 through Regioanl District taxes for landscap- ing, road improvements, drop off site, etc. at. Burns Bog — as well as paying our own way for Premier Street. The reason we are given for contributing such funds is that we can sue the site under the agreement. Whether Vancouver and Delta‘are going to renege on this agreement remains to be seen. - ; The unanimous resolution of District council to close the Premier Street site by year. end was not a sympathy vote for a few affected neighbours but was predi- cated on the following facts: ¢ The landfi!l is not consid- ered a suitable continued use of the pragerty and does not meet the criteri. established by the LMRP sub-committee VMiayor defends dump closure on landfills; *Continued dumping beyond that time will require that we clear additional trees and vegetation on the flood plain immediately adjacent to the creck. However, such clearing would provide for only a few additional mon- ths of dumping in the per- mitted asea and create an unnatural and unusable finished site; ¢The option of transferring to Burns Bog until October 1986 is in place under the agreement between Van- couver, Delta and the GVSⅅ ©The LMRP report allows for the transfer of North Shore wastes to th Eastern landfill site as of October 1986. Hoping this clarifies the action of District council and the rationale behind it. Marilyn Baker Mayor, NV District # Norra SHORES E & WHEELCHAR | EXPERTS.
