By MARK HAMILTON Mayors and municipal of- ficials of all Lower Mainland municipalities were briefed on the contents of the reports at a meeting in late June and the reports have now been made available at 12 information centres on the Lower Mainland. On the North Shore, the reports are available as ref- erence material at the Lynn Valley Branch of the North Vancouver Library system. The committee reports mark the end of the fact- finding phase of the Lower Mainland Refuse Project, which earlier held a series of public meetings throughout the Lower Mainland. The results of the hearings and the staff research has resulted in the summaries on aspects of waste disposal that include landfills, in- cineration and recycling and resource recovery. Overall, the reports cover "WW Pott mm A BS LOWER MAINLAND aste disposal report available the ‘‘basic facts we can use to plan how our refuse can be handled over the next 15 to 50 years,’’ according to a spokesman for the Refuse Project. The next step in the Project, funded by Lower Mainlanmd municipalities and regional districts, will be the drafting of a ‘‘concepts report’’ by project manager Keith Henry. In that report Henry will outline several different op- tions for a long-term refuse disposal policy. Henry expects to have the report finished by early September and it will be followed by a series of open houses, workshops and a conference to seek input from special interest groups and members of the general public. The Refuse Project has also set up a special Hotline to supply members of the public with information or to gather their views on the question of waste disposal. The Hotline number is 112-800-242-4412.
