With that in mind, we've made some incredible changes for 1984, offering Canadians the best Supra the 1984 Supra GTS.”’ The Supra’s 2.8 litre, 6 cylinder twin cam engine with a 5-speed manual] overdrive transmission, puts out 160 hp at 5600 rpm; 10 hp more than last year. This electronically fuel injected engine features a microcomputer that automatically adjusts critical engine functions to changing driving conditions. From a restyled grille, to a larger color-keyed air dam and newly designed rear lamps and logo treatment are some of the most important changes in this year’s Supra. (The formerly black-colored hatch door is now color- keyed to the exterior paint finish.) The cight way adjustable driver’s sport seat is standard in the 1984 Supra, along with automatic air conditioning, a 5-speaker AM/FM MPX stereo cassette, which has a 7-band graphic cquahzer and $-channel power amp with a total output of 60 watts, plus a power antenna. POET NO SNR NO nnn, In its short list of options, the 1984 Supra features sup- ple, full-grain leather upholstery (mew this year), and a= sophisticated, elec- tronic display instrument panel which indicates speed in km/hr or mph at the touch of a button, and measures fuel level and coolant temperature electronically. The tachometer uses a colour-coded LED graphic display to show engine rpms on a rising curve. The choice of transmis- sions consists of a standard 5$-speed manual overdrive or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission with ECT (electronic controlled transmission). The ECT utilizes a microcomputer to control transmission — shift points and torque converter lock-up for improved engine performance and economy. The ECT’s sensors keep track of vehicle speed, gear- shift position and temperatures, sending the in. photo submitted Supra reigns supreme More than once called the formation back to the com- puter. The split-second tim- ing of the computer allows for smoother shifts while shift and lockup points can be implemented over a greater range of speeds and engine loads to improve gas mileage. A shift mode selec- tor allows the driver to pro- gram the transmission to suit his driving style. Classic European suspen- sion features semi-trailing arm independent rear suspen- sion and a limited slip dif- ferential ratio of 4.10:1 on the 5-speed manual! transmis- sion.
