Lakes told District council that Option C, to which both councils are switching from Option D, might not take effect until 1983 because of the way the act is worded. AS - Wednesday, November 25, 1981 - North Shore News Option C is designed to remove some of the burden of property taxes from homeowners. Under the current Option D, com- mercial, residential and industrial properties are taxed at 100 per cent of assessed value, but soaring house prices mean homeowners pay a disproportionate amount of municipal taxes. Under Option C the different classes of property are taxed only a percentage of assessed value — and that percentage is lower for homeowners than businesses and industries. But Lakes said _ that percentage is supposed to be the same percentage in effect on April 1, 1981, but on April 1, the District was assessing property at 100 per cent — under Option D. Mayor Don Bell said he would refer Lakes’ concern to the District’s lawyer and would report back to council if there’s any validity to it before a special council meeting that will be held next week to officially adopt Option C.
