i ( Do students demand too much of system? Are West Vancouver parents and _ students demanding too much of their school system? That's the question that will be asked at the final meeting of the West Van Education Forum on Wednesday, May 14, at Hillside Secondary School, Starting at 7 p.m. The ‘planning mittee”, which members of Vancouvér Association, the West Vancouver Teachers’ Association and the West Van School Board, has com- includes the West Parents’ ‘ chosen as the topic for the evening, “Chent Choice — Can We Stull Afford 1t?” At present parents have a large degree of choice, on behalf of their children, of school, teacher and courses. Given the unique strictures of declining enrolment and the effect client choice has upon such things, for example, as class and school size, scope of programs and viability of small schools, the question has been raised as to whether or not the board must make some changes in its present policy. Chaired by Trustee Lilian Thiersch, the evening will open with brief presen- tations by Schools Superintendent Ed Carlin, an administrator, R. Brown, a parent, Pat Pearmain, and a classroom teacher, Dave Stignant. This will be followed by what is expected to be some lively debate of the issues involved, to take place in small groups each to be provided with resource people to aid in the discussions. The evening will conclude with a spokesman from each group reporting back on the questions: els it either desirable or practical to continue client choice in its present form? © If not, what changes in this pohcy should be made?
