THE DRY weather we have experienced so far this September is contributing to the good fishing being found out in the saltchuck. The rivers are low, and large concentrations of salmon are still waiting out in salt water fora good rain to raise water levels. The mouth of the Fraser River is stiil the hot spot. The majority of the fish are pinks, but there are some coho, sockeye, chinook, and chum being caught as well. The most consistent hot area is fairly close to the mouth between the north arm jetty and the middie arm. The red-bell buoy off the Iona Island outfall is a good starting place. Use pink hootchies between 20 ard 80 feet. _ Note: the red bell buoy at Jona is not one of the boundary THE NORVAN soccer. club -got its first win of the young season with a 2-1 victory against Club Jreland before a **good crowd”’. It is inside the closure by a few miles. There are some new bright silver coho showing up at the mouth of the Capilano River, but the overall number of fish is dropping. The best bet is to use cutplugs in very shallow water on the out- side of the gravel bar. A few chinook are still being taken by drifting in deeper water off the marker. Indian Arm is another place to try. The mouth of the Indian River should still be full of pinks, and several big chinook have been taken off the power station. If you are planning a longer- distance fishing trip, Thrasher Rock is producing good numbers of coho on live herring, and there should soon be chums holding outside the entrance to Nanaimo Harbor.
