Coun.. Barbara Sharp said that
members of council and city staff
deserved some ‘‘pats on the back”’
for work on the city’s own atf-
fordable housing plans.

She said of the provincial strat-

_ egy: “The cost implication (for
the. city) is quite minor compared
with the advantages. It’s a lot of
what we wanted on the North
Shore.”’

Coun. Rod Clark. called the
provincial recommendations
“motherhood and apple pic.”’

- He said the city is involved and
“should be. involved’? in pro-
moting affordable housing.

But Coun, Barbara Perrault was
concerned that the report did not
indicate who was going to pay for
the various strategies outlined.

Council voted to advise the
provincial Municipal Affairs, Rec-
reation and Housing minister that
“the city is interested in working
with provincial housing programs
and initiatives concerning
homelessness, expanded municipal
and regional roles and powers,
and special-needs housing."’

The city also expressed interest
in participating in. discussion on
secondary suites and in being rep-
resented when communities are
consulted on changes to the
Municipal Act.

Staff were directed to prepare a
teport on potential sites for af-
fordable housing projects in 1993,
