Anatek began in) North Van- couver in 1969 designing. manufacturing and marketing a fine of DC power supplies. Explains Anatek vice-president of marketing and sales Mark Ker- shey, “ht was to improve the per- formance of power supply that we got into custom thick film hybrid manufacturing. North Vancouver-based Anatek designs and developes microcir- cuits for a number of electronic products. With the capability in-house, the company started looking at custom business. Since the mid- "70s we've been doing custom business and it’s taken off from there."” Electronic microcircuits design- ed and manufactured at Anatck end up as components for a varied range of products. The company does a lot of work for manufacturers of medi- cal equipment, hearing-aid and aerospace technology. And the Anatek music products division manufactures a line of musical in- strument accessories designed to operate with electronic keyboard equipment. Picking through a tiny plastic box full ef tiny and intricate microcircuits, Jerry Schroeder, research and development coor- dinator at Anatek, shares a mystery of two with a curious techno-peasant: **This one fires a loser." The circuit goes into a game gun that shoots harmless lasers. Another piece is made for a mi- crowave communication system. Yet another component helps to make a CAT scanner tick. There are also a lot of micro-gadgets meant for hearing aids. According to Kershey, about 25 per cent of the company’s ‘hybrid’? business is hearing in- strument related, Anatek was purchased by Linear Technology [Inc. (LTI) in 1987.
