ORGANIZERS ARE calling Saturday’s Hose Reel Festival a success. The event offered more for families and
children this year and drew an estimated 3,000 people. In addition to the traditional parade of fire department
bands and firefighting trucks and equipment, the annual fundraising event also included bandstand music by
(left) the Vancouver Fire Department band. Burnaby beat out Surrey to win the hose ree} race. In the
foreground (above) the Delta and West Vancouver teams show how it’s done. In other fire department com-
petition, Richmond won over West Vancouver in the water tower event while Vancouver vanquished Richmond
via volleyball. The Mahon Park festival is held to raise money for the LGH Foundation, the Vancouver General
Hospital Burn Ward, the North Shore Search and Rescue Society and the North Shore Firefighter's Senior Girls
Basketball Tournament.
