The event, which happens Mon- day and Tuesday, Nov. 9 and 10 from 1 to 3 p.m, also features a. craft sale. Part of the long- term care home support system, the centre is located in St. Andrew’s auditorium, Ith and St..Georges, North Vancouver. The centre, which is open Monday to Friday, serves.residents of North and West -Vancouver who, because of chronic physical, mental or sensory impairment, cannot participate in usual social activities. _ Adult day care provides personal assistance, nursing supervision and an organized program of health, social and recreational activities in a protective group setting. In addi- tion, the centre offers respite for care-giving families while their rel- ative is attending the program. Especially when members of the “care-giving family have to work, many scuiors face a long day in isolation — a situation fraught with both physical and psychological dangers, says the centre, which alleviates this pro- blem by offering social and recre- ational activities. A program of exercises, games, crafts, music, singing, reading and entertainment is provided. Members may attend | once or several times a week. The centre says one particularly ‘popular program is a nutritious noon meal which caters to special diets and is served in a family-like atmosphere. Funding is provided through the provincial government, the three North Shore municipal gov- ernments and private donations. A daily fee of $4 is normally charged to members. Program staff includes a nurse who helps with the management of physical handicaps, medications and other special needs. A social worker is also available for con- sultation and referrals for members and families. If necessary transportation can be provided, using Handidart and volunteer drivers.
