It isn’t stuffy or academic and can be anything from a life-sized Scottish piper to a miniature pair of oxen pulling a cart. Joe Sleep, whose paintings depict a colorful innocent childlike look at the world, used to be a carney with the circus. When time for retire- ment came along, he discovered to his dismay he was ineligible for a pension, so he came to depend on painting for his income. Sidney Howard loves Anne Murray. He carves’ her likeness out of all shapes and sizes of wood. In the piece to be in this show, he has placed a carved heart around her neck to show his devotion. During the duration of the show a film, ‘‘From_ the Heart’’ will be shown at the Houston-Farris Gallery. This documentary was made by Donnalu Wigmore, of the Canadian Broadcasting Cor- poration.
