A POLICE officer found himself in an unexpected scuffle when he stopped a yehicle at Pemberton and Marine Drive last weekend to check whether the driver had been drinking. And things really started getting out of hand for him when a passenger in the car he had stopped jumped him from behind. That was when passers-by stepped two in and ‘Thanks for nothing’ - RCMP AS5 - Sunday, February 6, 1983 - North Shore News came to the officer's aid, helping him to subdue the two men so he could arrest them. The constable ran into his spell of trouble at 1:40 a.m. Saturday after pulling over a vehicle when he suspected the driver might be im- paired. He checked out the dnver's identification on the Computer system in_ the police car and found the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant. That was when the scuffle broke out, during which the constable was attacked from behind by the male passenger from the car. Fortunately for the constable, two passers-by - a man from North Van and another from Coquitlam - stopped and helped him out so he could make his arrest.
