Although the creek beds start quite wide, they narrow towards the base of the mountain and the canyon walls get steeper. It can be the last mile or two “‘before civili- zation,”’ he says, that can. be the worst to travel in. Search Masters manage all aspects of the search operation; once contacted by pager by the RCMP or West Van Police, the Search Master decides how many searchers to call out, where to assign them and how to cordon off the area.
