Troops trom Edmonton arrived in North Vanceuver on Yuesday morning to take part in an ‘earthquake simulation exereise, They joined the Sixth Field Engineers squadron based at Fell Armoury on Forbes Avcnue. The exercise simulated an carthquake with a magnitude of 8.5 on the Richter scale hit- ting the West Coast just off Vancouver Island. ‘The quake would have a serious impact on the Greater Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo areas. It would collapse many roads and bridges and generate an eight- metre (26-foot) tsunami. The quake would be com- parable to the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Kobe, Japan, in 1995.
