22 - Friday, March 13, 1992 - North Shore News ENVIRONMENT Making global connections AS THOSE of you who are using your ‘‘North Shore Go- ing Green’’ calendars are well aware, there are scant days remaining before the opening of Globe 92. Just like Globe 90, only iarger, Globe 92 is North America’s larg- est business and environment trade fair, and it’s happening at the Vancouver Trade and Conven- tion Centre from March 16 to 19. While I could tell you about the gadzillions of exhibitors and the world-renowned speakers who will be attending the trade fair and conference, of much greater inter- est to the average reader is En- viro-Expo, a family-oriented ‘event that will be following Globe 92. While it’s a hackneyed phrase, Enviro-Expo does indeed ‘‘prom- ise something for everyone’”’ in its three-day run from Friday, March 20, to Sunday, March 22 at the trade and convention centre. I'm especially interested in the “Earth Connections’? seminar ‘series that presents various en- vironmental topics in lay-terms ‘for the general public. It draws on both local speakers and international guests in town ‘for the Globe show. - One of my favorite en- ‘vironmentalists, Dr. Noel Brown, will speak on Canadians’ influence ‘on global environmental condi- tions at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 0. : Currently North American director - of the United Nations Environment. Programme, Dr. ‘Brown is an expert at giving his audience a truly global look at ‘some of our shared problems, as well as turning his attention and enthusiasm to focal efforts at making a difference. * Earth Connections seminars are includéd in the admission, which is by donation, thanks to the sponsorship of Pacific Press and the. provincial and federal gov- ernments. The suggested minimum dona- tion is $2 for adults, $1 for children, and proceeds are being given to the B.C.
