FLETCHER CHALLENGE Canada is offering scholarships of up to $1,500 each to 30 high school students graduating this year. Twenty are for dependents of employees and ten for students graduating in communities where the com- pany is a major employer. Telephone Company is proposing price cuts in long distance calls to provinces east of Alberta, averaging to cuts of about 15 per cent. If approved by the Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission, the price cuts would mean prices for trans-Canada calls will have fallen by an average of more than 50 per cent since 1987. B.C. Tel is also proposing price cuts for other types of long distance calling, including business services such as WATS and its 800 service, as well as the resi- dential service called Between Friends. JOB TRAINING Focus ’90, aimed at exploring new careers, will be held March 29 at the Bonsor Recre- ation Complex at 6550 Bonsor Ave., in Burnaby. There will be displays by private training schools, public colleges, universities and trade institutions, showing what they have to offer and how to enrol. There will also be presentations about job prospects in various industries and workshops for employers and people currently looking for work.
