SEYMOUR RAPIDS Masters
Swim Team members broke Cana-
dian and world records in various
events at the recently completed
Canadian Masters Swimming
Championships.

Twenty-six swimmers from the
team, which is based at Ron An-
drews Community Centre, par-
ticipated in the swim meet held at
UBC. Approximately 700. athletes
from England, the U.S. and all
parts of Canada and Mexico com-
peted in the event.

Highlights of the meet included
the six world record performance
by Patricia Gilmore and world re-
cord performances by several
relays.

Gilmore established world and
Canadian records in the 50-metre
freestyle, 100-metre backstroke,
200-metre backstroke, 100-metre
butterfly, 200-metre individual
medley, and 400-metre individual
medley.

established the new Canadian
mark in the 400-metre freestyle.

Mike Price, Rob Barton,
Gilmore, and Diane Phillips
established new Canadian and
world records in the 200-metre
mixed freestyle relay and the
200-metre mixed medley relay.

Another relay team of Barton,
Peter Cruise, Price and John
Priestman established a new world

and Canadian standard in the
men’s 200-metre freestyle relay in
the 120+ age group.

Other highlights included Cruise
establishing a new Canadian re-
cord in the 50-metre breaststroke,
which was remarkable because he
had a broken toe at the time.

Most swimmers established per-
sonal best times in the events that
they swam. Fine efforts were pro-
duced by Helen Kissinger,
Elisabeth Krajicek, Ruth Rodger,
Jane Fletcher, Sue Chambers,
Brad Cairns, Dean Stanton, Ken
Edmonds, Roy Goodman, Bill
Rysiew, Jim Cripps, Mike
McMillan, John Looye, and Doug
Hoiles.

B.C. championships

WEST VAN/Cypress Park won
the North Shore District Joe Shea
Championships, beating the strong
contingent from North Van Cen-
tral/Lynn Valley 5-3. The winning

Rahim Gulam and Scott
Ackerman of Lynn Valiey com-
bined to maich the four-hitter that
Cody Morrision of West Van pit-
ched.

Although North Van Central ted
1-0 until the fourth, West Van
replied in the fourth and fifth to
go ahead 5-1. North Van started a
rally in the sixth but fell short 5-3. s

In the semi-final, North Van
Central/Lynn Valley pitcher Mike &
Earland pitched a one-hitter and
knocked out the Forest Hills/
Highlands team 7-2.

Tony Foster threw a respectable
four-hitter for Forest Hills.

The Ambleside Park provincial
championship play will see teams
from Little Mountain, Langley,
Victoria and Vancouver vying for
top spoi.
