mailbox * = Dear Editor: I refer to the letter **Monarchy Worthless” which was written by an M. Garland, and appeared in your newspaper recently. I am English; a writer who is travelling through Canada. I was amazed by _ the ignorance demonstrated by Mr./Ms Garland, who stated that Mr. Trudeau had to go “cap in hand to England to ask permission to change the Canadian Constitution.” The British have been asking Canada for YEARS to Younger generation learns from parents Dear Editor: Re: Ellsworth Dickson's recent column. Iam a young woman who, along with others my age, feels that the younger generation has been put Society thanks Dear Editor: We, at the British Columbia Lions Society for Crippled Children, want to thank the North Shore Realtors, who held their Fourth Annual Grouse Mountain Climb for Crip- pled Children on Friday, September 12, 1980. However, it appears that Canadians are determined that we unfortunate British shall keep it whether we like it or not.Personally, I am sick of paying taxes to keep your constitution safely locked up, and shall be glad when Canadians accept res- ponsibility themselves. Do not blame the British for this situation — blame your warring politicians and their lack of will. As for the two Labour down unjustly. We have been told we have no manners, no respect fer our elders, are rude, take every- thing for granted, etc. I will agree that in many cases this is true, but it is not our own fault. Children follow the realtors — “TIMMY” — was on hand to help present the winning trophies to Bell Realty. Second and third honours went to Block Bros. Again — do not blame the British for a mess which Canadians themselves have created! If M. Garland were better informed, he or she would know that when we bow or curtsey to the Queen, it is not the woman herself we are making obeisance to, but examples set by the parents and use the values that the parents have also passed along. Well, it seems that the older generation has failed to pass on good morals and values, yet we get blamed for their ignorance. This, I say, is unjust. I foresee a great change in the upbringing of the next generation. The young generation of today will learn by the mistakes of the older generation rather than by good examples set. It will be very interesting to see just how the next generation turns out. Kathy Hinchhffe North Vancouver At Park Royal West Vancou ve , Ylome ” what she represents — namely, our country. No foreigners are ever expected to do this, and it is a matter of evolutionary history that the British now regard Cana- dians as foreigners also. The days when you were our close cousins are long past, and we accept this. We British do not want to keep your Constitution, nor do we want to force our Queen on you. I believe all intelligent and informed Canadians know this. I have a strong feeling, however, British don’t want our constitution that M. Garland does not want to accept this fact. I have the feeling M. Garland extracts pleasure out of play- ing the role of the oppressed Colonial citizen, and will actually feel deprived once the Constitution is returned, and the Canadian monarchy done away with. He or she will then have to look around for something else from which to get his or her masochistic kicks. James Borthwick Egham, Surrey England Voted for annex, not replacement Dear Editor: Your page one story about Cove Chff School in the September 14 edition of the News, indicates that I voted in favour of the proposed replacement of Burrard View School. This is not so, although I did vote in favour of building a small annex to Burrard View which would relieve any foreseeable overcrowding at that school. 1 am still, as I have always been, totally opposed to replacing Burrard View with a new school at a cost of millions of dollars to the taxpayers. Burrard View is not an old school by social standards. If it is run down it is because it has been 680 Manne I r. Bn tush Col Tet 922 411!
