A contingent of four skaters per event/per province (B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan) competed in Calgary for the right to represent the West at the Canadian Na- tionals in Hamilton, Ontario on Feb. 3-7, All B.C. skaters had to qualify provincially in their respective events, The NSWC had the largest contingent of skaters represented in the singles, pairs and dance categories. A highlight for the club was 13-year-old Mark Vandekerkhove winning the novice men’s long and short programs. Vanderkerkhove is coached by Edy Rada, an Olympic medalist and former Buropean champion. In the ladies’ junior division, Keyla Ohs, coached by NSWC pro Linda Braukman, stole the show in her short and long programs. The club also managed to put two. members on the pedestal in the novice ladies’ division.
