NEWS BRIEFS Remains found THE WEST Vancouver Police are investigating the weekend discovery of human remains in the Cypress Bowl area.’ Skeletal remains and some clothing were found by a hiker on Ssturday afternoon. While the cause of death or identity of the remains have yet to be determined, the police believe the remains to be those of a young woman. The body had remained undiscovered for at least a year. The police are conducting an intensive investigation in a bid to identify the dead woman. A search of the area where the remains were found continued on Tuesday. Suite fire FIRE DAMAGED an East Second Street suite recently in North Vancouver City. North Vancouver City Fire Department firefighters were called Sept. 20 to 707-172 East Second St. at 4:15 p.m. According to 2 North Vancouver City Fire Depastment spokesman, investigators believe the fire may have been caused by a faulty electrical appliance. Only the suite’s kitchen was damaged by the fire; the test of the suite and two adjacent suites sustained smoke damage. Tenants of the suite in which the fire originated did aot have their contents insured. Fire department officials recommend that people renting accommodation insure their possessions. The loss caused by the fire is estimated at $35,000. Candidates grilled TEE SAVE Howe Sound Society will host two all-can- didate debates en Friday, Oct. 11 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 at Giencagles Elementary School in West Vancouver, 6350 Marine Dr. All the candidates from the West Vancauver-Garibaldl and West Vancouver-Capilano ridings have been invited. . Candidates witl be grilled on issues such as the environ- ment, health, education and social and economic issues relevant to Howe Sound and the West Vancouver region. Meanwhile, the Squamish and Howe Sound Chamber of Commerce will host an all-candidates debate for the West Vancouver-Garibaldi riding tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Squamish Civic Centre. Employees threatened NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are searching for a man who entered a North Vancouver business Sept. 24 and _ threatened employees with a crowbar. According to police, a man entered 2930 Lonsdale Ave., threatened employees and attempted to pry open post office boxes. The suspect is described as being 25 to 35 years of age, 5°7” to 5°8"’, weighing 200 to 220 pounds. When last seen, he was wearing jeans, a jean jacket, a blue ski mask and dirty running shoes. Any information regarding the incident may be for- warded to Const. P.J. Cross at 985-1311.
