Dear Editor: In a telephone call to the North Vancouver District Hall to request a printed record of their district meeting, we were taken on by a spokeswoman in the municipal clerk’s affice who gave us an edi- fying lecture about the priorities of our current mighty rulers. It seems all residents in the district. are not created equal where basic neede are concerned. This is differesit, of course, when taxing proygerties. Suddenly it became clear to us why we receiv- MAILBOX NVD ignoring neighborhood needs ed no answers to our questions from on high; mayor and aldermen never give out in- criminating answers, as this lady was willing to do. It went something like this: When roads cease to be roads and become just a collection of hard bumps, very close together, it is not a reason to repave. The prior- ity is who lives there. We were told, ‘‘other people have other priorities.’ When we suggested “such as expansions to her: and im- ICBC should focus on driving habits Dear Editor: In response ta Ken Hardie’s June 2t ICBC column on speeding drivers, may | suggest that simply slowing down isn’t necessarily the solution, Safe driving and an em- phasis in this direction is more of a long term solution. Many highways now have too slow a speed limit and it should be taised. Instead of creating more passing lanes, the department of highways has changed dotted lines to solid. The result is that more risks are taken by drivers and speed of course is encouraged by the lack of safer highways, Instead of the fines on top of the extra points from speeding in- fractions, make the penalty a safe driving course that entails, say, three two-hour evening courses sponsored and given by ICBC. ICBC has those facilities avait- able in its offices or claims facili- ties and it would give more utilization of its buildings for a constructive purpose. Use of films of accidents and the bent and twisted bodies have a very sobering effect — even on the young drivers. B.J.A. Finnie North Vancouver Thanks to Spirals’ proprietor Dear Editor: Due to a careless oversight, a wonderful Saturday evening at Spirals in North Vancouver was marred by our car being towed, However, all was not lost due to the chivalry of restaerant pro- prictor lan Stabler who took time away from his busy restaurant to drive two damsels in distress to Payless Towing. Thank heavens for a strong man in tow when it comes to deal- ing with Payless Towing. This is a company that does not display its business licence or rate sheet for towing services and could not produce same. Payless Towing quoted as fotlows: towing $50, dolly $15, and GST $4.55, for a total of $69.55. This is way out of fine as compared to City Towing. However, that is a matter we will attend to. For now, we want to thank Jan Stabler for a wonderful evening at Spirals at 15 Lonsdale Ave. in North Van- couver. The cooking was wonder- ful, the service excellent and the carrot cake the best in the West.
