SELECTING THE RIGHT FERTILIZER-fertilizer comes in many formulae from

a large number of manufacturers and sometimes presents a confusing picture

to you, the gardener. Simply remembering the meaning of the identifying

numbers will help - they are always in the same order, Nitrogen-Phosphorus-

Potash, or N-P-K. Lawns require more nitrogen, and you should use a 12-4-8

formula in spring and something like 18-6-12 or 20-10-4 in the warmer

. weather. Almost without exception, flowering broad leaved evergreens (Rhodo’'s,
“~~ Azaleas, Camellias, etc.) need the reverse combination, and two common ones
are 4-12-8 or 8-20-20 (the latter is simply twice as strong as the former). Some

_ H people get the all purpose 6-8-6 for everything, but you will get better results
F if you use the proper piant nutrients.

JAPANESE AZALEAS

One of the most popular evergreen flowering shrubs, coming 0S
awidevariety of colours. Mostare low growing and prefer mn
shaded locations. Make sure there is plenty of peat moss around
their roots, and use a good quality 4-12-8 fertilizer. Pruning
should be done after blooms are finished. 15cm pot each
