THE FEDERAL government has expanded areas of
restricted shellfish harvesting because of possible dioxin
contamination from pulp mills. The expanded areas an-
nounced last week are adjacent to six pulp mills near
Duncan, Campbell River, Powell River, Nanaimo, Gold
River and Kitimat. The closed areas have been expanded

by as much as five times over their original sizes. The

vironment ministers to promise eventual prohibition of
