Christmas celebrated at libraries CHRISTMAS IS for Children is the theme of North Vancouver District Library’s holiday displays this year, but all branches will be celebrating the season with special programs for children and adults alike. On Thursday, Dec. 14, the Capilano branch will host A Fami- ly Christmas Celebration at 7 p.m. Popular songwriter and entertainer Susan Trudell, creator of Rocking Horse Dreams and Cradles and Christmas, is first on the program. Refreshments will be served, and a session of storytelling wil! follow with staff storytellers and special guest Melanie Ray. Lynn Valley branch's celebra- tion is an open house on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be free coffee, cookies and mulled apple cider, and entertain- ment by The Girls from Ipanema, a local group who have been mak- ing a name for themselves with a zany mixture of lively music and colorful costumes. Everyone is in- vited to come and get in the Christmas spirit. At the Seycove branch, Christmas and Hanvkkah will be celebrated together in Latkes, Lights and Lotsa Presents. This is a special program on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 10:15 a.m. for preschoolers, with holiday stories and traditional refreshments. Cof- fee will be served for the parents. Capilano branch wraps up its regular storytime sessions with special Christmas stories on Wed- nesday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. All district libraries will close this year on Saturday, Dec. 23 and remain closed through Boxing Day. Normal hours resume on Dec. 27. — For New Year’s, Lynn Valley and Capilano will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Seycove will also close on Saturday, Dec. 30.
