Corolla offers wide
range of vehicles

COROLLA, TOYOTA’S
worldwide, number one seller,
enters the 1989 model year with a
broad range of 14 family-oriented
vehicles from sporty two-door

coupes to four-door sedans and

wagons.

Totally redesigned last year, the
Corolla range expands in 1989 to
include a new full-time, four-wheel
drive Sedan which joins the
previous 4WD Wagon and front-
wheel drive Coupes, Sedans and
Wagons.

The heart of the Corolla is a hi-
tech, fuel efficient, gear-driven,
twin’ cam/16-valve four-cylinder,
1.6 litre engine. In carburated
form, this unit produces 90 horse-
power at 6,000 rpm to power the
SR5 Coupe, front-wheel drive
Sedan and Wagon.

A 100 horsepower at 5,000 rpm
electronically fuel injected unit
powers the full-time four-wheel
drive Wagon and Sedan while a
fuel injected 115 horsepower at
6,600 rpm version of the ubi-
quitous four-cylinder unit powers
the racy-looking, two-door GT-S
coupe.

Whether fuel injected or car-
burated, the superior design of
Corolla’s twin cam/multi valve
engine delivers excellent low and
mid-range performance with in-
creased response for adverse driv-
ing conditions while improving
fuel economy with outstanding
reliability and serviceability.

All 1989 Corollas are available
with five-speed manual overdriv>
transmissions. In addition, the SRS
Coupe, Sedan LE and both 4WD
Sedan and Wagon may be equip-
ped with an optional four-speed
automatic overdrive transmission.

The front-wheel drive Corolla
Sedan and Wagon may be fitted
with an optional three-speed
autoinatic overdrive transmission.

The fuel efficiency of Corolla’s
twin cam/16-valve engine is
enhanced by its advanced
aerodynamic body style. The sleek-
ly styled, flush-surfaced body

doors leading to the sculptured
rear quarters.

Smooth air flow is enhanced by
such details as sculptured halogen
headlights and aerodynamic outer
mirrors. These all combine with
Corolla’s flush surfaced body to
maximize streamlining and reduce
wind noise.

GT-S and SRS5 coupes have a
more steeply slanted nose combin-
ed with fully retractable headlamps
for greater aerodynamic efficiency.

Aerodynamic outer mirrors are
standard on both GT-S and SR5
coupes while a bold rear spoiler is
standard on GT-S to go with a

racy exhaust note from its dual
exhaust piped, fuel efficient
engine.
