Free lectures to focus

on Waldorf

A SERIES of six free lectures on aspects of the
Waldorf School curriculum is being offered starting
Monday, Oct. 17.

The talks will be held for consecutive Monday
evenings at 8 p.m. at the Vancouver Waldorf School,
2725 St. Christophers Road, North Vancouver.

The school is also holding an open house on Satur-
day, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be
displays of student work from kindergarten to Grade

12, an opportunity to meet teachers and parents, and .

a tea room. Child care is available.

The Vancouver Waldorf School is an independent,
co-educational, non-sectarian school which offers a
broad curriculum, balanced between sciences, the
humanities and the arts.

The first Waldorf School was founded in Stuttgart
in 1919 on the principles set out by Dr. Rudolf
Steiner, an Austrian philosopher and educator. The

Vancouver Waldorf School was started in 1971 and
now offers education from preschool and
kindergarten through to Grade 12. .

According to an information sheet about the
school, ‘‘the distinguishing feature of Waldorf educa-
tion is the teacher’s understanding of man’s inner
nature and the development and awakening of this
rature in the child. The child’s development grows
from ari early sense of wonder.to intellectual awaken-
ing and a thirst for knowledge. As the child moves
from kindergarten through the high school the cur-
riculum is designed to present each subject at a time
and in a way which will best, awaken the. child’s
