Jeyaseelan ousted

SONYA JEYASEELAN of North
Vancouver reached the finals of
the 12th Annual Pepsi Junior Cir-
cuit in Seattle recently, only to be
defeated by top seeded player and
local favorite Lisa Proctor of Seat-
tle in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

“Sonya is the youngest pla’er
ever to reach the finals in the
under-16 singles event in the Pepsi
Junior Circuit,” said tournament
director Winfrid Lim.

‘(The Pepsi circuit) has seen
some of the best players in the
past, such as Helen Kelesi and
Jonathon Stark of Medford (in
Oregon). But Sonya seems to me
more natural and fluid to her age
and size.’’

The last time Jeyaseelan, 12,
played Proctor, 15, was 1% years
ago at the Pacific Northwest
Junior Sectionals in Tacoma, winn-
ing easily in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.

This time Proctor played ‘‘the
best game ever of her life’? to
revenge the defeat in the hands of
Jeyaseelan, said Jim Proctor, her
father.

Enroute to the finals, Jeyaseelan
beat Tracy Gilmore of Everett 6-1,
6-4; Lisa Wart of Sunnyside,
Wash., 6-1, 6-0; and Gretchen
Farrens of Poriland 6-0, 6-1.

The Pepsi Junior Circuit draws
the best juniors from across
Washington, Idaho, Oregon, B.C.
and Alberta.

Do you remember the fairy tale JACK AND THE BEANSTALK?
Jack was the little boy who parlayed a cow into the
"good life" for an entire community. That's what the

In Jack's tale, you remember, he traded a cow for some
magic beans thal grew into a giant beanstalk. He then
climbed the vine, found a castic AND a giant who not
only owned a hen tnat obligingly laid golden eggs, he
also owned big bags of silver and gold PLUS a magic harp
that played the sweetest music this side of Gabriel!

What I like best about Jack's story is his eagerness to
share his riches - not only with his widowed Mother,
but with their entire community.

That's what the West Vancouver Foundation has in mind:
SHARING, for the benefit of the whole community, from the

the closest knit community in Greater Vancouver, it is

Remember how Jack's story ends? ot like the part about
the giant. We chased Jack down the beanstalk and before
