As part of his race strategy, Langford used a bottle of tire treatment that makes race tires stick to the track better. It helped Langford win his race and break a 13-year-old race re- cord in ‘D’ sports racing set previously by the team of Bob and John Randall. Langford knocked nearly two seconds off the record. The North Van driver started the race on the pole in the 15-car field, and led for 11 laps. Seattle’s Steve Doty, driving a Brabham, took over the lead for two laps when the two cars brush- ed as Langford outbraked Doty on a hairpin turn, But Langford took over the lead TWO NEW TEAMS JOIN Coaches soccer kicks off WEEK ONE of the expanded Coaches Soccer League kicked off Sept. 7. The addition of two new teams has necessitated re-alignment of the league into two parallel seven- team divisions and implementation of a partially interlocking sched- ule. Football week in mid-play FOOTBALL B.C., the governing body of amateur football in B.C., has announced that Sept. 15 to Sept. 21 will be Football Week in B.C. The proclamation was passed by a provincial government order-in- council. Over 10,000 players participate in all forms of football from the pee wees at ages eight to 12, through bantams, midgets, high school, juniors, universities, and on into adult levels of recreation football (flag and touvi:}. Gordon Ladbrook, deve!opment coordinator, says that Fovthall B.C. recently (July) changed its name from the B.C. Amateur Football Association. The week will be marked through the province at all levels of football with special half-time activities.
