ding down, but 52-year-old Gabriele thinks it’s a
perfect opportunity to thank all of the volunteers
in her life. “

but is capable of looking
after herself in her own
home. In total, Gabriele ‘says
she relies on about {5 volun-
teers — either friends ‘or
volunteers from the I[n-
glewood YMCA — to help
her out daily.

special to have all of these
people help me. They've all
stuck by me. I wouldn't be
where [ am today if it
weren’t for these volunteers.
My children are married and
five in the U.S. so 1 don’t

tive director of the North
Shore Information and Vol-
unteer Centre said Canadian
statistics show up to 50 per
cent of. the population in
most communities act as
volunteers by donating their
blood, time and efforts to

different causes.
She said her céntre deals "!
with about ‘70 volunteer

organizations — which con--~*

sist of literally thousands of ..
volunteers — on a regular
basis, with the centre itself
manned by about 65. volun-
teers. She estimates about
200 volunteer organizations
operate on the North Shore.

Wednesday, the ‘Ceutre
hosted a recognition night
for focal volunteers with
about 400 people attending
the Park Royal ceremonies
and festivities.
