protection against
weathering.

Other corrosion protection
includes special metals,
primers, wax coatings and
sealers. All-new for the 1985
Ninety-Eaght is a galvanized
floor pan. With this new ap-
plication, all underbody
panels and ratis are coated
with galvanized zinc. All ex-
tenor panels, except for the
zinc or special pre-coatings
on the inside surfaces.

A single tool produces every
door opening for a given
body style and carline. Ac-
tual guaging from the door
hinges are pierced, providing
for exact placement of the
door during later assembly

Side panels are also
precisely located and
automatically clamped to a
side frame fixture assigned to
that specific body style. This
assures correct placement
while exght robots place cir-
tical spotwelds After the
welds are in place, the body ts
automatically unclamped and
moved to the next operahon

The single tool concept
continues during the welding
of roof bows, both = for
holding the parts in place and
for dimensional control of
the welds themselves

Low level gamma rays are
directed at the underbody of
the new Noinety-Fight to
determine that all parts are
present before the doby
moves on in the process lf
parts are missing, ¢ven in
enclosed sections, the
assembly will be reyected and
rcturned for repair
