The branch delivered over 160 gifts to the psychiatrically-disabled who live on the North Shore. Gifts of money, clothing, essentials and luxuries suitable for all ages and both men and women poured in from churches, service clubs, businesses and indi- viduals. Many of the recipients are in hospital wards, with others in group homes and a substantial number on their own. Personal relationships are difficult for these people who sometimes find themselves isolated and particularly lonely at Christmas, says North Shore CMHA president Margot Kiss. Each year CMHA branches across Canada par- ticipate in this drive to aid these members of society who are loo often invisible in their communities. The CMHA is a registered charitable organization concerned with the problems of mental illness and the promotion of mental health. 41 ~ Wednesday, December 27, 1989 - North Shore News NEWS phots Cindy Goodrian SINGING THE songs and playing the sounds of Christmas were Up- per Lynn Elementary students who recently entertained holiday shop- ers at Lonsdale Quay with choral pieces, instrumental accompani- ment and flute and piano solos.
