Later the number was cut in half, and this week a BC Fernes
spokesperson told the News it would be 7,000.

The gapansion, slated to begin in November, will include a
new 10-lane traffic holding area near the school. It will also see
new administration, maintenance and ticketing facilities.

Residents have argued the new terminal is far too large for the
setting, and that the construction work will be disruptive and
possibly damayzing to the foundations of dieir houses and to the
health of their children.

They have enlisted the support of MLAs Ted Nebbeling and
Jeremy Dalton, the West Vancouver school board and Squamish
district council.

In the meantime, West Vaneauver police, will be keeping 3 close
eye on drivers travelling the bridge when it’s open. *

“We're getting reports from the construction crews of cars
travelling, in excess of 100 kilometres per hour,” said media Haison
officer Jim Almas. The speed limit in the construction zone, which
extends trom the Prospect Point off ramps to the north end of the
bridge and viaduct, is 40 km per hour.

“Iz's a safety issue,” said Almas. “We're lucky no one has been
hurt or killed.” Police will be handing out tickets at all times dur-
ing the day and night. The minimum fine for speeding i in a con-
struction zone is $173 plus three demerit poicts.
