At 3:30 p.m. Dee. 24, four volunteers from the Deep Cove Lifeboat were asked by the Victoria Rescue Centre to aid the barge, said Paul Riviere of North Shore Lifeboat. They arrived at the barge at the same time as the harbour patrol vessel. Both vessels began pumping the barge's bilge, which was 80% underwater. After two hours of pumping, commercial pumps supplied by the Lynnwood Marina were put into action. The barge was 90 years old and depended on power from the shore co run its safety bilge pumps. The power supply run- ning te the barge from shore had been cut, disabling the pumps. The barge was eventually removed from the water for inspection, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl.
