The Handsworth Royals captured the senior boys’ crown with a rotal of 194 points, far outpointing the second place Carson Graham Eagles (with 84 points) and the third place Rockridge Ravens (74). In the senior girls’ team competition, the Balmoral Barons won their second team title in a row as their 143 points far outmatched second place Carson Graham (69) and third-place Handsworth (43). Balmoral also won the juvenile. boys’ team title as the Barons’ 257 points put them well ahead of second place Carson Graham (161) and the third place Collingwood Cavaliers (93). The North Shore wrestling champiunship meet was first held in 1970, with Windsor and the now-closed Delbrook and Hamilton schools the best of the bunch. In 1985, due to dwindling participation numbers, the North Shore meet was can- celled. Carlin finished third. decade farer. “The sport started to take hold again a couple of years ago,” North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association coordinator Len Corben said. With renewed interest in the sport, specifically at Carson Graham and Balmoral, the North Shore championship meet was re- established in 1996. This year nine schools fielded teams at the North Shore championships. Corben added that female participation in high school wrestling on the North Shore is becoming more prevaient, giving the sport an even more solid base in North and West Vancouver..
